The Best Acer Notebooks From IFA 2017

It’s that time of the year again when consumer electronics companies show off their newest products. IFA 2017 has not even started yet and PC manufacturers have already started announcing new lines of laptops, desktops, and accessories. The biggest news this cycle is Intel’s eighth-generation Core processors, which are hitting mobile PCs first with quad-core CPUs offering 40 percent or better performance improvements. Acer jumped into the fray with its own announcement of some new models in its Windows 10 2-in-1 and laptop lineup along with a new Chromebook and Aspire all-in-one (AIO) PC.

The new Windows 10 machines include an all-new Spin 5 convertible 2-in-1, a new Switch 7 Black Edition detachable 2-in-1, and a refreshed Swift 5 laptop, each with the new 8th Gen Intel Core processors. A new Chromebook 15 model brings a large-screen option to fans of Google’s Chrome OS platform. Finally, Acer is introducing the newest member of the Aspire line of AIO PCs with the Aspire S24, its slimmest-ever model, that also makes use of Intel’s newest technologies.

Acer Chromebook 15

Starting Price: $399

Release Date: October 2017

Specs: 15.6-inch, 1080p display, 12-hours of ACER Aspire 5513WLMi Laptop Battery life, up to 64GB of storage, up to 8GB of RAM, two USB Type-C ports, SD card reader

What’s new: The Chromebook 15 uses an aluminum top cover and palm rest. It will be available with or without a touchscreen display.

Switch 7 Black Edition

Starting Price: $1,699

Release Date: December 2017

Specs: 8th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU, Nvidia GeForce MX150, 13.5-inch 2256 x 1904 display, stylus with 4,096 degrees of pressure sensitivity

What’s new: The Acer AutoStand can be automatically activated and retracted, Acer claims that it’s the first fanless notebook with discrete graphics thanks to its Dual LiquidLoop cooling.

Swift 5

Starting Price: $999

Release Date: December 2017

Specs: 8th Gen Intel Core CPUs, FHD touchscreen display

What’s new: Acer says the magnesium alloys provide extra sturdiness and makes it just 2.2 pounds.

Spin 5

Starting Price: $799

Release Date: September 2017

Specs: 13 and 15-inch models, 8th Gen Intel Core CPUs, up to 16GB RAM, up to 13 hours of Acer aspire 4520 notebook battery life, GTX 1050 GPU option (15-inch model only), 1080p display.

What’s new: Far-field microphones allow you to invoke Cortana from up to 13 feet away, front-facing speakers.
